Biyang - means 'flying island'- is a volcanic island. Among musts to see on the island are the six peaks of Biyangbong Oreum, two craters and a lava tube named Rock with Baby on Back. The most notable thing in Biyang Island is Biyangbong Oreum with a crater on its top. Standing 114m high above sea level, Biyangbong Oreum is not particularly high, but the slope is steep. Along with superb views of the coast, the dramatic scenery of Mount Halla and other secondary volcanoes seen from the top make people feel refreshed.
It is said that a thousand year ago, there were 99 small mountains on the main island of Jeju. Because it was one short of 100, it was not able to form a big country. One day, a small mountain was flying to Jeju Island. Just before it arrived at Jeju Island, a woman was surprised by the roaring sound. She went outside and shouted "Stop" because she thought it would hit the village. Then the small mountain stopped and became what is now known as Biyang Island.

This island is the starting point and the ending point of Korea. On the island stands a monument that notifies that it is the southern tip of Korea. It takes one and a half hours to walk around the coastline.
It was 1883 that people started to live in the southern tip of Korea. On Mara Island is General Rock which is regarded as sacred as people believe a tutelary god comes down here. Legend has it that Lee family who lived in Gapa Island moved to Mara Island with a girl babysitter after they went bankrupt. The family burnt and cleared trees. They decided to go back to Gapa Island and come back to Mara Island the next spring when the burnt trees would turn into fertilizer.
A few days prior to departing, Lee dreamed of a god who said to him that he would face high waves if he does not leave a girl on the island. As a result, he and his family left the island without the girl babysitter after sending her an errand. When they came back to Mara Island, she was dead - a mere skeleton. Since then, the family started to hold a memorial service for her. Until recently, villagers hold a service for the eternal rest of the babysitter.

Once upon a time, a hunter went deer hunting at Mount Halla. He happened to climb to the top because he could not find any deer. Finally, he found one deer. He hastily lifted his bow but by mistake, he touched the bottom of the King of Heaven with the edge of his bow. The furious King of Heaven picked up the peak of Mount Halla and threw it to the west. It landed and became known as Mountain Sanbang. The hollowed place at the top of Mount Halla became Baeknok Lake. Technically, the size and shape of Mount Sanbang is similar to Baeknok Lake.
Mount Sanbang is a lava dome connected to the Dragon Head Beach sedimentary layer on the coastal area of Sagye-ri, Andeok-myeon.
In the area on the southern cliff of the lava dome, there are many talus of various sizes and shapes. There is a sea cave, Sanbang Cave that gives a unique view overlooking the ocean and it is one of the 10 beautiful scenic views in Jeju Island.

There is a rocky hill called Yongmeori because it is shaped like the head of a dragon entering the water. It is composed of¡¡layered sandstone and visitors marvel at this uniquely beautiful coastline.
In the past, Emperor Jin united China, but he did not feel secure about his kingdom even after building the Great Wall. A geomancy book showed that a future king would be born in the Tamna kingdom, which fueled the kings worry. He decided to send a team of feng shui experts under the guidance of General Hojungdan to cut off the energy (qui) flow of Jeju by severing the vessel of fertility. They entered Jongdali, Guchi-eup and went steadily southward, cutting the spot. Upon arriving at Mt. Sanbang and looking around, they saw that the pulse of the mountain was stretching to the Pacific Ocean and the dragon head was moving. Exclaiming "This is it. If it is severed, everything will be ok.", they hurriedly went down the mountain and cut off the tail of the dragon which was about to go underwater. Then they slashed its back and head. The dragon cried piteously, roaring and spouting black blood in the air. That is the time when the birth of a great king was stopped.

On Mysterious Road (or Bugaboo Road), a parked car on a slight hill road rolls uphill instead of going down hill. This is a result of an optical illusion in which the lower part looks higher because of its surrounding environment.
