The absence of a life partner led to irresistible yearning and finally caused her to become a rock.
This is what Oeodolgae signifies - abandoned and separated from the headland.
With the unusual rocks surrounding the Haekum River at Namju and the Chilsipri coast of Seogwipo, the 20-meter stone pillar "Oeodolgae" stands out. Standing at the beautiful beach of Samebong Peak and located 2 km from the west of Seogwipo, it was formed by volcanic activity at the same time as Jeju Island 1.5 million years ago. A group of pine trees inhabit the top of the pillar.

Oedolgae was named for its isolated location on the sea. It is also called Grandmother rock (Halmangbawi) as legend has it that an old woman waited for her husband to return from a fishing trip. When he did not come back, she became a rock. On the tip of the rock, some trees and grasses grow, resembling human hair. It will give you the impression that the old woman forehead, sorrowful eyes and nose can be faintly seen on the left side of the rock. The open mouth will make you feel like the old woman is calling for her husband.
There is a rock right under the Oedolgae that looks like it is floating. It is said that the rock is her husband body before she become a stone pillar. Spreading like a folding screen, the oddly-shaped Fairy Rock (Seonnyubawi) cliff surrounds the rock as if it is trying to embrace the stone couple.

Another story about the rock dates back to the time when General Choi Young of Gogureyo was battling against the Mongolian forces that were occupying Jeju Island. Beomseom Island at the back of Oedolgae was their last line of defence and the general cleverly disguised Oedolgae as a giant general to scare off the enemies. Fearing that a big general is standing guard against them, all of the enemies in Beomseom committed suicide. That why Oedolgae is also called the "General Rock".
On the way to Oedolgae, there is Cow Rock (Someribawi) on the left with a grassy area. The surrounding area is famous for its pleasant natural fishing spot, acting as a resort area where you can relax. The sunset on Beomseom Island viewed from Oedolgae is truly a majestic scene.

Morning and evening is good time for walking along Samebong Peak course while you are staying in Seogwipo.

Jeongbang Falls, located in the center of Seogwipo City, is one of the top three waterfalls in Jeju along with Cheonjiyeon Falls and Cheonjeyeon Falls. This water is the only one falling directly to the sea in Korea. The 23 m-high waterfall has two streams of water. It produces the brisk sounds of water falling along the black wall, creating a splendid scene along with the ocean.
Moreover, the neighboring precipitous cliffs and the stately old trees add to the unique scenic view of the waterfall. It has been selected as one of the ten wonders of Jeju and called "Jeongbang Hapok". They say that letters "Seo Bul Gwa Cha" are inscribed on the wall of the waterfall. A Chinese scholar named Seo Bul was ordered by the First Emperor of China to seek the herb of eternal youth. Unfortunately, he failed in his quest. On his way back home, he happened to see the waterfall and was mesmerized with its beauty.
He inscribed "Seo Bul Gwa Cha"on the cliff, but since there is no vestige of the letters now, it might be just a legend.

This stadium was designed to symbolize nature and traditional culture of Jeju Island in modern terms. In harmony with the natural surroundings, the Jeju World Cup Stadium provides a spectacular view of the sea, islands, and Mt. Halla.
The cruising sailboat symbol expresses the pioneering spirit of Jeju people who advanced to 5 oceans and 6 continents of the world.Officially opened on December 9, 2001, it was praised by the media around the world as one of the most beautiful World Cup stadiums.

The shape of the stadium symbolizes the secondary volcanic cones (oreums) while the gentle lines of its entrance represent the path leading to a traditional Jeju house (olle). The roof evokes the image of a traditional fishing boat (taewoo)and net while the supporting columns and spans symbolize a ship advancing to the five Oceans and six Continents.

To protect the field from Jeju trademark strong winds, the stadium is sunken to 14 meters underground. By scaling down the construction area to half, they managed to reduce construction costs, period and post-construction maintenance spending by 13.1 billion won. The high-tech facility outside the stadium help make an emergency exit easy and access for disabled people is well planned. After the 2002 World Cup games, the 8,000 changeable seats on the upper eastern stand were transferred to the Gangchanghak Practice Stadium, making the total seating capacity in the main stadium 34,000.
